Running gags: Ragging on the Hobbit was only the beginning..., Cyan mentioning cookies Side note: IDK if it's just me, but the next stream isn't showing up on the playlist. For those wondering, it's called OSPlays: Immortals Fenyx Rising (Chicken Ares, 4) and as far as I know, it's their most recent Fenyx Rising stream. Play-by-play of topics discussed: 0:00: They are back 0:54: hacker voice: We're in/Explanation of stream crash 2:55: Chat is back/fixing game audio volume 4:29: SmallAnt plug/They streamed BOTW/They don't do Twitch 5:59: First, they talk about Cleo... and somehow it escalates into comparing almost-lawyer friends 7:42: Now that we have exhausted ragging on the Hobbit movies, we move on to ragging on the A:TLA movie 9:56: ...and the Hobbit movies STILL get brought up (the love triangle is a self-insert fanfic)/Legolas characterization in the Hobbit vs LOTR 13:04: And now, we rag on the Harry Potter movies (specifically, Ron's characterization) 15:02: AND NOW FOR TWILIGHT 19:42: Thomas Brodie-Sangster looks 12 and is 30 (and also played Ferb)/Continuing disbelief of Twilight books/movies being taken seriously (specifically the new book) 24:17: Oh yeah, Anna Kendrick was in those movies 27:06: Kristin Stewart got the worst end of the deal, but all the actors kind of had it bad (Taylor Lautner was literally a child) 28:56: The books have BEEN out... there's really no spoilers at this point (feat. Pretty Little Liars) 30:00: Red: "Not to harp on the Twilight thing again..." yeah, totally... but, valid point: the age thing is one of many troubling things that makes me realize I'm glad I never read those books 31:46: Oh, yeah, Blue's playing a video game (Medusa fight)/the best thing about Skyrim is all the glitches 33:06: BDG references/discussion 34:25: BACK TO THE HOBBIT MOVIES AGAIN/The Hobbit: License to Kill 36:18: Bilbo worked, and Thorin sucked/"Long have I slumbered under the mountain waiting to talk about literally anything else" (same, Blue... same) 38:23: Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame hit different 40:25: What kind of stories will we tell after a global pandemic?/brief technical difficulties 44:23: Post-WWII Japanese media (Kurosawa films) 47:17: Reoccurring dreams (Cyan's vivid dreams/Red's fever dreams) 51:37: Cleo's less-snack diet and silly putty-esque figure 53:09: Sea shanties are the bomb for many reasons (including that anyone can sing along) 56:22: Cyan's "late for work" is my "I'm turning over and going back to sleep"/Struggles of wanting to cook but being tired 59:43: The Backstreet Boys' Reunion Tour was briefly outshined by the "angry fans storming the stage" (ie. it's been a week) 1:01:11: DnD shenanigans/trying to figure out video game puzzle (feat. reminiscing on taking forever to beat Hornet) 1:03:32: Bread recipe troubles/continuing problems with puzzle 1:06:59: Back to sea shanties 1:08:45: Explaining stress patterns (see also, why Shakespeare, Poe, and Tolkien are famous for more than just writing prowess) 1:15:22: Cleo likes cronchy snacks 1:18:02: "Roses are red; Skyrim is fun; you are overencumbered and cannot run."/Goodbye Past You in the chat 1:19:20: Hooray for Lord of the Rings! (how Blue started watching it/how Cyan nerds out over context from the book/Red's dad speaks Orc) 1:24:03: "Galadriel would never kill a man with a crowbar-- she would have no need of the crowbar."/Gimli is comic relief, and Red is Not a Fan/Cyan wants a Beregond appearance 1:26:44: The Scouring of the Shire is Red's angst jam 1:32:21: "Today's stream in summary: good books and movies are good; bad books and movies are bad." and "Sea shanties are great."/Cyan and Red sleep and wake up at opposite times/Chat has birthday 1:34:09: Cyan has lots of vacation days/Okay, class, are we ready for silent reading? 1:36:38: Fast and Family/movie night snacks 1:39:56: Wine Moms/Blue appreciates Cyan's dad's humor 1:41:29: Athena goes Super Saiyan/it's snowing!/There's a lot of people who throw themselves on/get thrown on burning pyres in mythology... of which do you speak? 1:46:00: The gods are sparkly... are we sure they're not Twilight vampires?/"My mom has a fridge." - Chat/"You keep saying "and scene:" I don't think it works the way you think it does." 1:47:41: Aphrodite was the friends we made along the way all along/Blue likes blue (armor) 1:48:37: Closing remarks (feat. On the Scouring of the Shire thing: I don't even think they cut that out to make the ending happier, I think they more cut it because, in all seriousness, the way it was paced in the original novel was just BAD and they really couldn't figure out how to make it work for the movie. In the book, it happens AFTER the climax, which is a really bad place to put anything intense in a story because people are trying to wind down and process the emotional catharsis. If they had put the Scouring in the movie after the climax, the most it probably would've done was probably make the audience really tired and cranky because they already spent a lot of emotional energy on the climax of the film and now they're being asked to invest a bunch more of it into another half hour of fights. And even if they moved the Scouring to before the climax, Return of the King is already 3 hours and 35 minutes long; any longer and Jackson would've REALLY been having issues finding theaters who would wanna exhibit the movie, no matter how profitable they were.

41:13 Honestly, I'm one of those writers who *can* write edgy, but I much prefer to have stories with a sense of optimism and hope and a "Yeah, we got this" type of message in them. Because yeah, after living through the modern day Spanish Flu, people aren't gonna be super interested in "downer" stories because we fucking had enough of that irl lately.

You should do.. something, anything at all really, with "The Tale of the Bunny Picnic". Because you need to watch it right now. Yes, you do. Everyone else does too. Jim Henson helped breathe beautiful life into this little story to help everyone focus on where our minds need to be at in precisely this moment in time... if for no other reason than, in true Henson fashion, it is a perfectly good story for just about any time, but also because it's... well, you'll see why it's perfect for this time in particular. Nobody noticed it before... it stayed small and hidden for a long time, but now, when it's truly needed, it's time for it to stand out. You have a perfect platform to help it happen... so, please, help sound the drum for the frightened. We all deserve, we all NEED a reminder that we're not alone right now.

The reason why I knew that they were going to bring everybody back, was that they also killed Spider-Man. You don't do that and make it stick and hope that diehard Marvel Comics fans are going to stick around. He has been the face of Marvel since the late 60s-early 70s. You don't kill a character like that.

The weirdest dream I had was physically correct star wars, where I work on the death star and it fires it's laser and a that powerful laser has enough recoil to accelerate the death star at multiple 100gs and I would press the button and instead of dying I would stay awake and I would feel that overwhelming pain for a brief second and I would wake up. It was extremely disturbing and I've luckily never had it again afterwards.

I think marvel did something pretty clever with infinity war and end game. Because nowadays the audience need a lot of convincing to believe a charecter is actually dead and often going into an episode or a movie after a 'death' they know that they're going to have to bring them back even if they dont know how. So the overall theme of end game is 'whatever it takes' so it's not about conceiving the audience the charecters are dead for ever it's about showing them how awful if would be if they didn't come back so that then they can justify the deaths that do happen, and more importantly make them convincing. If iron man died stopping the snap at he end of infinity war the audience wouldn't buy it and would assume he was going to come back. (A bad attempt of this same idea is Jon snows death)

Yeah, and when the imperial measurement system was used by the rest of the world, their measurements were inconsistent. Like Napoleon was 5'2'' in French imperical measurement, but was 5'7'' in English measurements. French inches were longer than English inches and the English used that to portray Napoleon as a short guy, he was actually average height.

I've read a good book that was at the same place and time as an earlier book that author had already read, and yes, the way you make that interesting is to largely gloss over scenes that happen in the first book and focus on all of the other stuff that happened. A conversation that might be pivotal to character A might be largely inconsequential to character B. There was *one* scene that I remember that is word for word the same but from the other character's perspective and it's creepy and stiff as heck...but it's also a pivotal moment for *both* characters, so you can't tone it down a bit. I would cite the author and promote their old ass book, but it's something of a JK Rowling situation. In a perfect world where I had the ability to automate such things, I would make this comment update itself when the author in question is dead and thus cannot use any revenue thereby gained in ways that promote their awfulness. But the only method UZpost allows for editing is manual and I'm sure I'll not remember this comment exists in however long it is.
